archives

The Manitoba Visual Arts Network is in the process of developing a searchable archive of materials relating to the visual arts in Manitoba. The archive will go back approximately 25 years to the establishment of Plug In Inc., the first artist run centre in Manitoba and one of the first in Canada. The materials archived will include records and slides of exhibitions, excerpts from reviews and brochures, and other relevant documentation. In addition we are providing searchable catalogues of films and videos from The Winnipeg Film Group and Video Pool as well as a searchable, annotated listing of publications issued by The Winipeg Art Gallery.

The research and development of this archive has been supported by the Arts Branch of the Manitoba Department of Culture, Heritage and Citizenship, which continues to support our archiving project: in particular we wish to thank Doreen Millen, Visual Arts Consultant at the Arts Branch, for her encouragement of this project, and Krista Boryskavich, who is doing the research and creating the archive collections.
