Forum on Art And Technology

If your browser does not support Java Click here

The Forum welcomes commentary from anyone interested in the relationship between art and technology. The Forum provides for both registered and unregistered contributors. Registered contributors receive a password which allows their contributions to be posted immediately. The contributions of unregistered users are posted by the forum moderator. To be registered, you must submit a contribution and a valid email address. When the contribution is posted you will receive a request to register sent to you by email.

The Forum Screen
  1. The Forum screen assumes that you have a browser capable of handling frames. If you use Java, a separate, self-expalantory window will appear listing all of the posted items. If not, at the top of the screen you will find a small scrollable frame listing all the items contributed; these are divided into two groups--threaded and unthreaded. "Threaded" simply means that there is a group of contributions relating to the same initial topic. The threaded items are formatted as follows in the top window:

    Threaded Discussions
    Item 1
      Nov 2 97 (9:39)
    + Item 6
         Nov 3 97 (13:33)
    a reply to: Item 1
    Nov 2 97 (9:39)

The top left-most item is the contribution which inspired the thread; next is one of the items in the discussion, which are listed in order of posting; and beneath this is listed the item which it responded to. These are all links, and clicking on them will bring up the selected item in the lower window.

  2. The main window displays the contributions and gives you additional options for navigating the database of contributions and for making contributions. To contribute to a thread, you click on the [Reply] button, and to contribute a new item, outside of a thread, you click on the [New Msg] button. Replying to a non-threaded item will start a new thread.

If you notice any problems with the Forum software, please notify the moderator

The articles should appear as black text in a white box. In some situations, apparently having to do with certain video display cards, your browser may print runs of multiple spaces in gray. This seems to happen only when your browser's background color is set to white and is corrected by setting the color to gray (or any other color). If this occurs and cannot be corrected, please notify the moderator

Acknowledgments
The Manitoba Visual Arts Network was initiated with the assistance of an Outreach Grant from The University of Manitoba Outreach Program. It has had the support of a Special Projects Grant from The Manitoba Arts Council for development of CGI software, and assistance from the Arts Branch of the Manitoba Department of Heritage, Culture, and Citizenship in the development of the MBVAN Achives. In addition, University College, at The University of Manitoba, has generously donated office space.
